The children are excited about this new unit. We will be discussing different types of balls. Balls are used for work and balls are used for play. Please let your child bring a ball that bounces to school this week.

Ball Art

We used three different types of balls to create a masterpiece.

The Tooth Fairy reminded us to brush our teeth.

It is important to see your dentist two times a year and brush your teeth two times a day. The class learned that our teeth need healthy food. We had a blast with this lesson!

Emergent Writing Skills

You've got mail!

We wrote notes to our friends and we walked to the mailbox to mail them. Each child told me what to write on their card and I had a blast putting their words on paper. Your child will be getting a card from a friend soon.

Our Building Unit

What do we know about buildings?

This was our first week to discuss buildings and the children had a great time exploring our building. We learned that buildings have doors, windows, ceilings, floors and walls. During this unit your child will learn concepts in science, social studies, literacy, math and the arts.

We walked through our building this week. The children drew pictures of our building during our walk. As your child draws pictures they are preparing their hands for writing skills.

D is for Dog!

A special thank you to all our parents for making this week wonderful! We Loved all the DOGS!

We were thrilled to have a special grandfather join our class. Mr. Fowler brought his box drum and we loved it! He played the drums for his daughter’s class when she was at St. James. This week he played for his granddaughter, she was overjoyed! Our parents and grandparents make our school special.

A Trip to South Africa

One of my favorite books from the tree study is Abiyoyo. I asked Mrs. Lisa Norton to read to our class. Lisa taught at St. James for a number of years and is now enjoying her retirement. As she read to the class we were transported to South Africa. Our story is about a father and son who save a town from a terrible giant. I love the way our curriculum brings other cultures to life in the classroom.

Thank you Mrs. Lisa for giving us a wow moment!

SEQUENCE OF EVENTS - A MOUSE BUILDS A SNOWMAN

We practiced using words such as first, next, and last to describe the steps of simple tasks. As the children learn about sequencing , they are being prepared to give directions, understand stories, build timelines and understand how one event is related to another.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING

I painted a landscape first and then the children had a turn. As your child painted they improved their memory and enhanced their creativity.

P. E.

During our P.E. time Monday morning the children used their gross motor skills to move forward and backward on a scooter. Our class attends P.E. twice a week and on Thursday the children had to complete a obstacle course. The students were thrilled as they crawled through a tunnel, jumped on circles, moved through a hula hoop and jumped through hula hoops.

SCIENCE CLASS - WE MADE SNOW!

During this snow event your child learned how to follow directions and observe a reaction with two materials. We mixed two pounds of baking soda with one can of shaving cream to make snow. Our snow was cold to the touch and we loved it! The children had a blast!
