FIRST AND LAST SHOW & TELL

Show and Tell gives children an opportunity to stand up in front of their friends and speak about a topic that interests them or share something that they love. It builds confidence and helps children develop effective communication skills. Look at the difference between their very first show and tell versus the last one. They have come a long way!

As the last day approaches, a new door will be opening for you and your child. We have laughed, cried, and grown together this year. I will keep a little bit of each child with me. Thank you for allowing me to be your child’s teacher. It has been a wonderful year

TXDOT VISIT AND TALENT SHOW

What a wonderful talent show!  We realize that any good performance takes time and a great amount of effort and flexibility.  Rest assured that this has not been wasted time, rather time well spent.  This is how St. James stands out from all the rest.  Some of our curriculum objectives the children have learned through this experience are:  following limits and expectations, traveling skills, gross-motor skills, speaking clearly, following directions, attends and engages, and persists.

They also gain a tremendous amount of self-confidence and self-control.  It’s not easy at the age of 4 and 5 to perform in front of an audience.  We think these children did a remarkable job.

All of this would not have been possible without help from our parents, Mrs. Denise and her middle school helpers, and Mrs. Wright.  A big thank you to all of these special people.

Roads Study, Egg Update, and Baby Chicks

Children get excited about playing with toy cars and trucks, and they spend time at school building roads out of blocks, putting together train tracks, and driving vehicles around the playground. Children are curious about the different types of roads they see, where roads go, how roads are made, how roads connect us, and the kinds of jobs that involve building or repairing roads.

We took several eggs out of the incubator to look at them with the egg candler. A candling lamp is a scientifically designed, purpose made lamp for inspecting the embryo development during incubation. We dimmed the lights and took turns observing the interior of the eggs. All of the eggs we observed had baby chicks in them. Only three more days to go, and we can hardly wait!

What a day this has been! We came in this morning to find we had 5 baby chicks in the incubator. We are up to a total of 8. Nine more eggs to go......we are super duper chicken hatchers!

Some have said this has been the best week ever. It's not every day a Pre-K class gets to witness the hatching of baby chicks. We are getting ready for the sad goodbye tomorrow, but I was able to capture some pretty cute pictures of the kiddos with the chicks. Just look at these precious smiles.....

LIFE CYCLE OF A CHICKEN, ST. PATRICK'S DAY & DRIVE-IN THEATER

Which comes first? The chicken or the egg? Our Pre-K classes are going to find out thanks to Cherrie Curtis, CEA - 4H and Youth and Development Leader. She brought us eggs, an incubator, and talked to the children about the different stages in the development of the chicken in the egg. Now, we wait 21 days.........

ST. PATRICK’S DAY SHENANIGANS

BEST DAY EVER

We ended our box study by having our very own drive-in theater!

WHAT CAN WE DO WITH BOXES?

What a fun filled week we've had answering our focus question what can we do with boxes? The children were divided into three groups. Boxes were chosen, ideas were voted on, and the creativity began! They created a house, castle, and a car, and had a blast playing in/with their creations!

TOOTH FAIRY

The tooth fairy spent all night flying so she could come and talk to our kiddos about the importance of having healthy teeth. They learned they need to brush twice a day for two minutes, and need two yearly checkups. She also sprinkled a little fairy dust on her way out. Thank you to Dr. Glass with Pediatric Dentistry of Texarkana, for providing this service to our community.
