Who Was? / Who Is?

Famous American Biography Presentations

3rd graders have been busy preparing for this day over the past 3 weeks! I’m pretty sure a few students knew who they wanted to research on the 1st day of school 😉

Yes, their parents, classmates and previous teachers love seeing this project come to life, but I especially nurture this unit of study because of the many academic objectives that are accomplished! After choosing their person if interest, students learned how to research a topic and take detailed notes using google search, library books, and publications. From birth to death, or current life, each famous American is honored through this project!

Concluding the research, each student typed a final summary (a requirement piece to display on their boards). After the hard work was completed, the real fun begins! A tri-fold presentation board was created at home using information from their research.

And finally, presentation day! Coming to school dressed as their Famous American, each student gave a 90 second presentation for their parents, teachers, classmates and all students on campus, Primary - 8th grade! It’s such a special time for students looking forward to being in 3rd grade as well as the past students who have participated in this biography project! Witnessing the St. James comrade, is a joyful thing! I appreciate this opportunity for all students to come together and support one another!

Poetry cafe-

Today, all of their hard work and knowledge of poetry paid off! Students presented 3 of the 5 poems they wrote in class to an audience! We invited our parents, grandparents, siblings and even Aunts to witness this epic event!

What is Poetry Cafe?

The Poetry Café is valuable because it turns kids on to poetry, of course, but it also strengthens their own writing, teaches them how to learn more deeply, and helps them develop public speaking and performance skills, all of which will serve them for the rest of their lives.

We started the new year by sharing stories, traditions and of course, a favorite toy! Show and tell promotes public speaking and a self confidence boost!

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

And we have a few dreams of our own!

Lower School Candle Light

December 15, 2022

This time of year is always busy, but memorable! We began the month preparing our hearts for the celebration of our Savior’s birth, as we all know as Christmas. Our daily devotions consisted of scripture leading to the birth of Jesus. In addition, students in 1st - 8th grade, performed Candle Light services @St. James Church Texarkana. This beautiful and traditional service always sets the tone for the real reason we celebrate Christmas! You can view the Lower School Candle Light service (1st -4th grade) here: https://youtu.be/lVO8HkFc6ZM

Parent Gifts 🎁

Over a span of 2 weeks, students worked diligently to create their parents gifts. This is my all time favorite DIY gift! Christmas Tree Nail Art! Students sanded their board, hammered nails using a tree template, then strung shades of green yarn in a variety of patterns.

Thank you Ben Mayo, with Mayo furniture for donating the boards and Ms. Denise for safely teaching the students carpenter skills!!

**Party Time**

Last but not least, a Christmas party took place to conclude our festivities together! We even had a surprise visitor, The Grinch!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
