Musical "Annie" at Texas High School

On Broadway, "Annie" is legendary. In fact, before the movie hit theatres in 1982, it had already been established as one of the best musicals on Broadway!

3rd grade was invited to watch a performance of “Annie” right here in our very own town! And to add to the excitement, 2 of our fellow students, Sadie Harp & Alexis Mayo shared the role of Annie herself!

One of the MANY benefits of being a St. James student is experiencing live musical productions from the audience AND as part of the cast onstage! (Our spring musical is on the calendar for March 2022)
Bet your bottom dollar that the show was fantastic!

Book Character Day & Fall FESTIVAL

Kids always want to dress up in costumes at the end of October, but many families don't celebrate Halloween. Book Character Day is a way to allow kids to participate in the fun of dressing up while meeting curriculum objectives.

3rd graders learned how to write a book report and presented their reports to the students in Lower School.

What an exciting day it was for our class!! The past 3 weeks were spent studying poetry. They learned many elements of poetry and even wrote a few poems themselves! On top of learning and writing about poetry, the class presented their “Book of Poems” with a live stream presentation! This project supported not only writing and reading skills, but also public speaking! Click here to watch it in action!

All hands on deck

3rd graders have been busy learning new ways to show their knowledge. We utilize Quizlet to study vocabulary words. A neat feature of this free online resource is playing “Quizlet Live”. The program randomly choose teams and each team competes to be the first to correctly answer vocabulary questions. We read, “The Origami Master” and learned that becoming a master of origami is quite difficult! An online tutorial helped us create our origami birds. I am so proud of their perseverance during this challenging hands on activity.

We’ve also began our Poetry unit of study! In preparation of our “Poetry Cafe”, students are learning how poetry is organized and the many poetic devices that make up a poem. The weather here in East Texas was beautiful this week as we welcomed the cooler temps and sunshine! I love the flexibility of teaching outdoors when possible!

Check back to watch our poetry to come life with the presentation of our very own, “Poetry Cafe”, Thursday, October 7, 2021!
