Grandparents’ Day 2019

What an amazing day it was celebrating our Grandparents! Following Chapel, each grade performed and demonstrated something they have learned within the school year. 3rd grade presented the “Indian Chant” with recorders. So impressive! Our music teacher, Mrs. Tipton, dedicates many before and after school hours to her students. She is nothing short of amazing and we are thankful for her ability to instill a love for music in each student here at St. James Day School!

SCIENCE, THE SYMPHONY, AND BIOGRAPHIES

Bonnie Cabbage 3rd Grade Program

Each year, Bonnie trucks deliver more than one million free O.S. Cross, or “oversized” cabbage plants to 3rd grade classrooms across the country.

Picture date: 10-24-18

The program awards a $1,000 scholarship to one student in each participating state. At the end of the 8-10 week "growing" season, teachers from each participating 3rd grade class select the student who has grown the “best” cabbage, based on size and appearance. A digital image of the cabbage and student is submitted online and that student’s name is then entered in a random statewide drawing. State winners are randomly selected by the Commission of Agriculture, in each of 48 participating states.

Congratulations to our classmates who nurtured and grew successful cabbage plants!

Texarkana Symphony

Two students from our class were chosen to represent musical notes during a field trip to one of their recent productions! The performance was beautiful and we learned many cool things about the composers, Beethoven and John Williams, which was the audience's favorite (Star Wars theme song)!

We used symbols to represent MLK Jr's life. The students became knowledgeable about the importance of the holiday and what it means to us currently in the year 2019! The artwork was just a fun bonus activity!

Stay tuned for Oral Biography presentations coming in February.....

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN 3RD GRADE

~T'was The Night Before Thanksgiving~

Our traditional Lower School Thanksgiving Program was a hit! Each grade added their own twist by performing a song or poem. 3rd grade chose a poem, and if you were there, it was one that will never be forgotten! This program was followed by a family feast organized by our Parent's Club!

~Musical Instruments; The study of Sound~

Students put their creative hats on and constructed a musical instrument following a rubric.

~Operations and Algebraic Thinking~

Students are understanding the concepts of multiplication and division through real-life scenarios. Showing "how" you got your answer is very important when it comes to solving problems. Not all students think the same, so therefore not all students will use the same strategies!

~Candlelight Ceremony 2018~

3rd grade shined, as well as the other students of St. James Day School during the Candlelight performance. This took place downtown at St. James church. So many people work hard for this event to be successful and it truly is a beautiful night of music, scripture, and unity!

GOODBYE OCTOBER, WE WILL MISS YOU!

~3rd Grade Cabbage Program~

Our class, along with many 3rd graders around the state of Texas, received cabbage plants on Oct. 24th. Bonnie Plants is an agriculture program that encourages students to participate by growing and caring for their own cabbage plant. At the end of the growing season (8-10 weeks), each student will submit an image of themselves with their cabbage. The "Best In Class" winner will be eligible for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship and statewide recognition!

~The Human Body: The Skeletal System~

Students studied this particular body system to learn how these parts work together and keep an organism healthy. An understanding of how our bodies work can raise awareness of our own health, leading us toward safe and healthy practices.
