Box Study
Our focus question this week was what can we do with boxes? Here’s what we found out: the boys voted to create a boat out of their box, and the girls voted to create a rocketship. They gathered their materials and started to work. Both groups were so pleased with their creations and were eager to share them with the other group. Some proclaimed that it was the best day ever! The benefits of cardboard box construction are : enhances creative thinking skills, teaches social skills, builds problem-solving skills and resilience. strengthens self-esteem, develops motor skills, and reinforces sustainability practices.
We also learned that we can create beautiful artwork in the lids of boxes using our fingers. Visual art experiences include painting and drawing. Children benefit from working with many different kinds of materials and having conversations about their artwork and the work of others. The more they are able to experiment with various media and to discuss different ways to use materials, the more children are able to express their ideas through the visual arts.
